What makes a city great?

There is a lot of debate on what makes a city or a country great from the point of view of a visitor or tourist. Is it the infrastructure? The convenient transport system? The entertainment facilities? The historical sites?
One can list out numerous options which ARE definitely important but the single most important factor is the people...the people who live there...the people who man various facilities...the people who are in the business of hospitality and tourism and numerous allied areas.
The people matter. There never was a greater need to sensitise and train the people right from the porter at the airport or railway station to taxi driver, rickshaw puller, waiter, and whole lot of people everywhere. It is the people who can make the difference to a tourist through a concerted training modules for every stakeholder.
Tourists or visitors do not take home only the images of the buildings, bridges, rivers and mountains...they take home memories of their interaction with the people they meet during the course of their visit. CJ

Give Your Time...

Gen (retd) S.F. Rodrigues, the Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Union Territory, Chandigarh, is involved hands-on to change the face of the city, and make it as a model of excellence, whether setting up a knowledge-hub or education city or tourist-friendly city is concerned, or the welfare and upliftment of the people living in the slums and rural areas around the city.
"They are part of our support system and we cannot ignore them", he says. And right from the time he took up the oath as Governor of Punjab till date, his very passionate refrain and appeal to the people of Chandigarh had been to join him in bringing the change that we want to see in the city.
"I need your time, your commitment, and your ideas", he has been always saying so, at the cost of repetitiveness, but the people of the city do require to be reminded time and again.
MyChandigarh also appeals to everyone anywhere around the globe to just think of the ways as to how you can contribute to make your own city, your home, a world-class city where everyone lives with peace, and have equal access to every basic necessities of life.
