Trekkers Club launched

Trekker enthusiasts in Chandigarh, and those visiting from outside, can discover the city in a novel way. Fifteen trekkies of the city have got together to form a Chandigarh Trekkers Club, with the Chandigarh Tourism Department offering to provide complete support.
The formal launch in the presence of Chandigarh Tourism Director Mr Vivek Atray at Chandigarh Beckons Hotel had been very encouraging. "The Club shall have to prepare its own plans and undertake activities where the Administration shall be there to facilitate in every possible way", he reiterated.
While the founding members present on the occasion debated on the scope of its activities, the Department of Forests has agreed to network with the Trekkers Club to provide access to trekking equipment, as well as help in identifying new treks within the city's limits.
From short one-days to longer and more difficult treks would be planned, says Ms Supreet Dhiman, a keen trekker who has climbed the highest mountains in both England and Wales, and shall cater to every age group.
The first Nature trip has been planned on the 2nd September through the Nepli forest and anyone can join in.
The club shall operate from the premises of STEPS and would be meeting regularly in the premises of the Hotel Chandigarh Beckons, in Sector 42D.
