Last month saw the launch of Big92.7FM radio channel owned by Reliance group, followed by MyFM94.3 of Dainik Bhaskar Group, a week after. And the music is alaround. Lively jockeys chatter on from morning till 11pm, when even the good old AIR Rainbow from Delhi also chucks off its transmission. The city is indeed buzzing.
Chandigarh had its first brush with exciting interactive radio experience with the launch of a private radio production house, RadioBuzz, which produced programmes that touched every heart in the city, in November 2002. The programmes were, and still are broadcast over AIR Chandigarh Station every morning, though there are several other players on the scene that have enlivened the audio space.
Rainbow came about a year back with the strong transmitter being set up at Kasauli. Now with the entry of two private fm channels, the scene is hotting up to catch the ear of the listeners.
However a recent study by a Mumbai based radio listenership research company has compared the three fm frequencies namely BigFM, MyFM, and AIR Rainbow, and declared BigFM as the real winner with the largest listenership amongst all age groups, followed by MyFM, and then by AIR Rainbow.
Now the advertisers have better advertising options. And so are the advantages for the growing, trendy and young population of the city, who is getting hooked to the dulcet engaging voice of the vivacious RJs.
